The Story behind the Artwork
The 2 cent coin, featuring two Kowhai flowers, a Red Admiral Butterfly and a curious Skink.
This one is slightly different from the 2 cent coin, I didn't just want to replicate the design, but add something to it. I wanted it look almost like a mini terrarium with the mossy pebbles and the ground and the creatures that may live there.
This coin was around from 1967 - 1990 so it was hard to find a shiny specimen, but my old coin jar came to the rescue.
This is the second artwork in the ‘NZ treasures coin series’ and there will be six in total of the old NZ coins - 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c 20c and 50c.
